Sony releases new FE 24-50mm F2.8G.

The new Sony FE 24-50mm F2.8G is a compact, large-aperture lens with high-performance optics.

Sony has just dropped its latest creation, the compact full-frame compatible FE 24-50mm F2.8 G. This standard zoom lens boasts a constant F2.8 maximum aperture across its entire zoom range, promising top-notch performance in a small, lightweight package.

Despite its diminutive size, this lens packs a punch when it comes to resolution and bokeh, delivering the high-quality images and creamy background blur you’d expect from a large aperture G Lens with F2.8.

Covering a focal length of 24mm to 50mm, it’s your go-to lens for everything from everyday snapshots to stunning portraits and high-quality video shooting, all while fitting snugly into the smallest of kit bags.

Sony hasn’t compromised on quality with this lens. Its latest optical and mechanical design keeps dimensions compact, with a filter diameter of φ67 mm, a maximum diameter of 74.8 mm, a length of 92.3 mm, and a weight of approximately 440 g.

This lens is designed to deliver sharp, detailed images at all focal lengths, thanks to its arrangement of four aspherical lenses and two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements, which reduce aberrations like chromatic aberration and ensure high resolution from the centre to the corners.

The FE 24-50mm F2.8 G features an 11-blade circular aperture that, combined with optimized spherical aberration, delivers beautiful, soft, and smooth bokeh characteristic of the G Lens series.

It has a minimum shooting distance of 0.19 m (AF) at the wide end and a maximum magnification of 0.30x (AF), making it ideal for high-quality close-up shooting.

Sony claims this lens is a beast when it comes to video too. Equipped with two linear motors, it offers high speed, high precision, high tracking, and quiet focusing.

It supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second for the full-frame mirrorless camera Alpha 9 III. For video enthusiasts, AF tracking is available for high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movie recording, with in-body Active Mode image stabilization for steady shots on the move.

For those who prefer manual focus, the FE 24-50mm F2.8 G doesn’t disappoint. It features linear response MF, offering smooth and superior image expression.

This lens is also packed with user-friendly functions, including a customizable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click ON/OFF switch, and focus mode switch, ensuring high operability and comprehensive control. Plus, it’s designed to be dust and moisture-proof, with a fluorine coating to prevent dirt from sticking to the front surface.

The FE 24-50mm F2.8 G will hit selected retail outlets from the end of April 2024, with pre-orders starting in early March 2024. Don’t miss out on this game-changer from Sony!
