Basq & Bean, newly opened on Beach Road, pairs Basque burnt cheesecakes with Northern Thai specialty coffee for a unique café experience in Singapore. Gluten-free, preservative-free, and full of seasonal twists, it’s perfect for dessert lovers and mindful coffee sippers alike.

Singapore’s café scene has no shortage of pretty interiors and photogenic desserts, but Basq & Bean, newly opened along Beach Road, has managed to carve out something distinct: pairing the art of authentic Basque burnt cheesecakes with the fruity, complex profiles of Northern Thai specialty coffee.

Walking into the café feels like stepping into a little sanctuary, with clean lines, warm wood accents and soft lighting. It is minimalist yet inviting, the kind of space that makes you want to linger over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake a little longer.

At the heart of the menu is Basq & Bean’s basque burnt cheesecake, a gluten-free creation served whole to stay true to Basque tradition. We tried the Snow White, which had that caramelised burnt taste yet remained surprisingly light and airy. Other flavours include Dark Chocolate, rich and indulgent, and a local twist in the form of Pandan Kaya.

What makes these cakes stand out is their use of natural ingredients without preservatives. Think real pandan juice, clean flavours, and a texture that does not feel heavy. On top of their classics, Basq & Bean also rolls out monthly cheesecake flavours to keep things exciting. For September, that includes a seasonal Basq Mooncake, made with salted egg yolk, lotus seed paste and slivered almonds specially for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

Speaking of, be sure to check out their full Mid-Autumn line-up, running from 6 September to 5 October 2025:

  • Basq’s Mooncake: Salted egg yolk, lotus seed paste, and slivered almonds.
  • Lotus Moon Latte: Espresso, lotus cloud foam, and a persimmon sphere.
  • Lotus Oolong Milk: Oolong tea, lotus cloud foam, and a persimmon sphere.

The Coffee: Balanced, Fruity, and Bold.

The cafe’s beans are sourced from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, regions known for their bright and complex coffee profiles. Basq & Bean offers three roasts, and the one we kept going back to was the Toasty Glutinous Rice (Medium Roast). It was balanced, aromatic, and easy to enjoy every day.

For those who like something bolder, the Dark Chocolate Vineyard (Dark Roast) is deep and intense, with winey undertones. Importantly, there is no actual wine in the coffee, so Muslim coffee drinkers can enjoy it without concern.

While you’re sure, don’t forget one of their Basq Signatures, Basq Brew, a white coffee paired with Basq & Bean’s own burnt cheese. Unique to the café, it balances the savoury and creamy notes of cheese with the coffee’s acidity, making it a unique drink both dessert and coffee-lovers will enjoy.

Beyond Coffee.

Not in the mood for caffeine? Good news! Not everything at Basq & bean revolves around coffee. The Hot or Iced Chocolate comes with a freshly made marshmallow that melts just enough to sweeten the drink without being overwhelming — indulgent yet balanced.

The Black Matcha Yuzu is another highlight, blending black sesame with matcha and yuzu cream. Its earthy, nutty flavours are lifted by a citrusy brightness, creating a layered and refreshing profile perfect for any matcha craving, while still staying thirst-quenching for that Singapore heat.

Muslim-Friendly Café in the Heart of Singapore.

Basq & Bean is not halal-certified, but when we spoke to the Muslim staff present, they explained that all animal products (if any) used are from halal sources. The menu is also entirely gluten-free. So for those searching for a Muslim-friendly café in Singapore, or simply a halal-friendly dessert spot, Basq & Bean feels inclusive and considered.

A note to my fellow Muslims, from the writer: please enjoy with discretion and stick to what feels right for you!

Sustainability is part of the story too. The café works with A1 Environment to upcycle spent coffee grounds into stylish mugs and cups, while also exploring other creative ways to extend the life of food byproducts. It is a small but thoughtful move that adds to the experience.

A Must-Try for all Coffee and Cake Enthusiasts.
