City Energy launches Intelligent Gas Hob aimed at reducing Unattended Cooking Fires

City Energy has launched Singapore’s first intelligent gas hob with built-in heat-sensing technology, introducing a new kitchen safety product designed to reduce the risk of home fires caused by unattended cooking.

The launch comes against the backdrop of rising concern over household fire incidents.

According to the company, citing the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s 2025 annual report, unattended cooking was the leading cause of residential fires last year, accounting for 318 of 1,051 such cases.

The new product, sold under the Küche brand, is built around what City Energy calls its Intelligent HeatShield safety system.

The system uses a thermistor sensor to monitor cookware temperature in real time by detecting changes in electrical resistance as heat rises or falls, while an onboard control chip processes that information continuously during use.

When the hob detects that a pot has exceeded a 280°C safety threshold, it automatically cuts off the gas supply to prevent the situation from escalating.

If cooking is left unattended for too long, overheated cookware can ignite its contents and start a fire. By intervening before that point, the intelligent hob can reduce both fire risk and damage to cookware.

The new hob has been tailored for Singapore’s cooking habits and regulatory requirements. In addition to the heat-sensing system, it includes a flame-failure safety device that automatically shuts off the gas supply if the flame is extinguished accidentally, for example by wind or spills.

The hob also works with a companion app that allows users to shut off the gas remotely or after a preset duration, adding another layer of oversight.

“This launch reflects City Energy’s broader transformation beyond piped town gas into smarter, lower-carbon living solutions for modern homes. Through Life by City Energy, we have been expanding our range of smart home solutions to make everyday living more convenient, safer and more energy efficient.”

Soh Guan Hong, Senior Vice President, Residential Sales at City Energy

Beyond safety, the hob also introduces a number of convenience-led cooking functions. These include five pre-programmed cooking modes for soup, steaming, pan-frying, boiling and deep-frying, each with preset heat profiles and timings.

The hob also offers nine levels of flame control through a 270-degree knob rotation, allowing more precise heat adjustments.

A 4.2kW burner is intended to provide the high heat output needed for stir-frying and wok cooking, while app connectivity allows users to manage timers, receive notifications, view estimated gas consumption and remotely switch off the hob within safety limits. Compatible range hoods can also turn on automatically when the hob is ignited.

The Küche brand already has a presence in Singapore’s residential market, with products being used in a growing pipeline of condominium developments.

However, while existing Küche gas hobs with built-in safety features are already available through Life by City Energy, the new intelligent gas hob is currently being offered exclusively to developers. The company says it plans to introduce the line progressively to consumers based on demand.
