Canon Celebrates 30 Years of PowerShot with a PowerShot G7 X Mark III Commemorative Edition

Canon Powershot G7X Mark III

To commemorate 30 years of PowerShot, Canon is releasing a limited-quantity PowerShot G7 X Mark III 30th Anniversary Commemorative Edition, complete with a special-edition colour, 30th anniversary logo, commemorative packaging and a collector’s wrist strap.

Canon traces the PowerShot story back to the launch of the original PowerShot 600 in July 1996. Since then, the line-up has grown to serve users across different levels of experience, from complete beginners to advanced enthusiasts, while the overall production volume of compact digital cameras, including the IXUS series, surpassed 200 million units worldwide in December 2025.

Compact cameras were once the cheerful middle ground between big, intimidating DSLR kits and the unreliable limitations of early phone cameras. Then phones got better, compact cameras got squeezed, and many assumed the category would simply fade into history. Yet here we are. PowerShot is still around, still being refined, and still evidently important enough for Canon to celebrate with some ceremony.

The current PowerShot family now spans three series shaped around different lifestyle needs. Canon says the G series focuses on exceptional image quality and rich features in compact, lightweight bodies; the V series is built around effortless advanced video shooting; and the SX series majors on powerful zoom capabilities.

The commemorative model itself is based on the PowerShot G7 X Mark III, first launched in August 2019. Canon says it features a 1.0-inch stacked CMOS sensor with approximately 20.1 effective megapixels, a bright large-aperture lens, 4.2x zoom, and video-friendly functions such as Video Blog recording mode.
