Samsung T7 & T9 microSD Review: The Small Cards That Save Your Storage Sanity

Samsung T7 & T9 MicroSD

The new Samsung T7 and T9 microSD cards are meant to simplify a confusing naming mess and give everyday users and creators a clearer choice: dependable storage (T7) or faster performance (T9).

There are two kinds of storage problems. The first is obvious: you run out of space. The second is more insidious: you thought you bought the “fast” card, only to discover it was fast the way some queues move at lunchtime.

Samsung’s new T7 and T9 microSD cards are, at heart, an attempt to solve both. They add capacity, promise stronger durability, and replace Samsung’s older microSD naming (EVO, PRO) with a clearer “T” line that’s meant to be easier to understand at a glance.

A simpler line-up and stronger positioning

The T7 and T9 names replace the earlier EVO and PRO convention, with the aim of making its removable storage portfolio easier to navigate.

The microSD world has become a soup of acronyms (U3, V30, A2, Class 10) sprinkled on packaging like seasoning. A clearer top-line label helps people make fewer mistakes.

And not to worry; both of these cards carry U3, V30, A2 and Class 10 ratings.

T7 vs T9

The T7 is designed as the “everyday” card: phones, tablets, handheld consoles, and general storage expansion.

The T9, on the other hand, is the “performance” option for larger files and busier workflows: creators shifting 4K clips, drone footage, action cam sessions, and heavier transfers.

Headline speeds are up to 170MB/s read for T7 and up to 200MB/s read (and up to 130MB/s write) for T9, with both achieving higher speeds with Samsung’s compatible reader.

If your use case is “store more photos, keep more apps, add more games”, the T7 already does the job. If your use case is “I shoot clips constantly, and I want them off my card quickly”, the T9 makes more sense.

The ‘six-proof’ reassurance

Samsung is leaning hard into what it calls “six-proof” protection: water, temperature, X-ray, magnets, drops and wear.

Cards get tossed into camera bags. They sit in glove compartments. They travel through airport scanners. They end up loose in pockets next to coins and keys.

A microSD card is a tiny piece of silicon that lives a surprisingly violent life, and “six-proof” durability is useful especially for action camera and drone users, who often shoot outdoors, in unpredictable weather, and in places where “careful handling” becomes an aspirational concept rather than a reality.

Be assured knowing your card is made to handle whatever’s out there.

Capacities and pricing in Singapore

With fluctuating memory prices thanks to the AI boom and manufacturing shortages, the good news is that the T7 and T9 come in at quite the bargain.

  • T7: S$75 (128GB), S$120 (256GB), S$237 (512GB), S$474 (1TB)
  • T9: S$94 (128GB), S$148 (256GB), S$298 (512GB)

For most people, the sweet spot will likely be 256GB or 512GB, depending on how aggressively you hoard videos. (And if you’re reading this, you probably do).

A sensible refresh that’s easier to recommend

The Samsung T7 and T9 cards feel like a practical, well-judged refresh. The renaming is genuinely helpful, the durability focus is appropriate for how people actually use microSD cards, and the pricing keeps both models within reach for everyday users.

If you mainly want more space and a dependable card for phones, tablets and handheld consoles, the T7 is your pick. If you handle bigger files and want the faster performance ceiling, the T9 is the one to buy.
