Independence Without Worry: How the imoo Watch Phone X10 solved my Anxiety as a Parent

One of the trickiest things to do as a parent is deciding when my child will be allowed more independence – like buying their own food from the stall, going down to the playground by themselves, or choosing to travel home from school alone.

My daughter is in primary school now, and she’s already begun bugging me on this issue, and I’ve been conflicted if she can start now or if we should wait for another year before she starts navigating Singapore’s buses and trains alone.

The imoo Watch Phone X10 just helped make that decision much easier.

We’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I think that the imoo X10 is designed specifically for parents, as it’s equipped with features that keep me connected and reassured.

My kids found it fun to use, with its built-in cameras, health trackers, and limited-for-now customisations.

So… what is the imoo X10?

The imoo Watch Phone X10 is a wearable tech designed to keep parents and children connected. It’s built with safety and communication at its core, while keeping it fun and interesting to get children on board. Indulge me as I try to simplify its features in a list:

  1. Real-time location tracking
  2. Video calling
  3. Built-in front and rear camera
  4. Chat functionality
  5. Parental app integration
  6. Activity tracking

You can do everything with a smartphone and so much more. So… why?

My daughter does have, and don’t judge me for this please, a phone. And a tablet. And a laptop.

She uses all of these devices at home for schoolwork, but she can’t bring them to school. She also has an existing smartwatch, but the features of that pale in comparison with the imoo X10. For my use case, the imoo X10 is the perfect middle ground with all the core features that I need to stay connected, while being discreet enough to be allowed in class.

It’s a social thing

There are other smartwatches with phone and video call features. What’s different with this one?

One of the benefits of this over other similar products is the detachable watch face and camera. This adds a nice flexibility feature for kids to explore and enjoy. The watch does appear to be sturdy enough to be taken anywhere in the wild.

That durability is a big plus in my opinion, and my kids have been having a fun time playing with the watch without the fear of easily breaking it. We haven’t tested it yet, but it has water resistance of up to 20 metres, so you can pretty much swim with it.

I must also say that it’s very user-friendly. My review unit did not come with a manual, but I found that the UI is simple enough for me to navigate and understand. My daughter also found it very easy to use without any instructions. Both hardware and software are straightforward and functional.

At this point, it does seem like I have nothing but good things to say about the imoo X10. But I do have some bones to pick.

First, and this is entirely subjective, is aesthetics. Simply put, I didn’t like it at first. When I saw it on my desk, I thought that it looked quite clunky, and the design felt slightly dated for a modern tech gadget. I have an Apple Watch, so I guess I was a bit biased then. This design did start to grow on me the more I saw it being used by the kids.

Also, there’s the software. Again, a subjective take, but the UI feels unpolished, even in those sections where they copy Apple’s UI.

And then, there’s the price point. It’s definitely not cheap at $499. For comparison, an Apple Watch is $349, and my daughter has another Android watch with similar features to that.

That being said, both of them feel less useful than the imoo X10, and I would still be more confident with my children wearing the watch phone.

TL:DR

If you’re a parent like me and find that phase of giving your child more independence tricky, the imoo Watch Phone X10 might be just what you need.

It’s not perfect, but it delivers what’s important: Independence for children, confidence for parents, in a small, sturdy, and fun package.
