Casio G-SHOCK GA-V01 Is A Time-Bending Tribute to the Future of Toughness

Casio G-Shock GA-V01

Launched this June, and initially available exclusively at Limited Edt Vault before its wider release, the Casio G-SHOCK GA-V01 is one that snarls with the same defiant energy G-SHOCK has been cultivating since 1983.

Designed by Mr Tomohiro Hamaue, this new model harks back to the “Never Give Up” philosophy instilled by G-SHOCK’s founding father, Mr Kikuo Ibe. Legend has it, Mr Ibe dropped the first prototype from a lab window, repeatedly, until it could survive the fall. That dogged determination lives on in every fibre of the GA-V01.

The watch’s battle-ready aesthetic, with bumper-like accents, spiked feet, and a structure that could double as armour, feels as though it belongs in a cyberpunk novel or on the wrist of a mecha pilot.

The GA-V01’s most arresting feature is its oversized, spherical glass face that looks like it was borrowed from a sci-fi command centre. Peer inside, and you’re greeted with a layered metallic dial featuring openwork and a full-screen LCD. The butterfly-shaped display, with its circular magnetic hands imbues the piece with what the brand calls “Y3K aesthetics.”

Hidden behind its brash facade is the Shock Release Hand mechanism. Unlike conventional minute hands, this one is magnetically held in place, free to absorb shock like a martial artist deflecting a blow. The result is a tougher watch with the freedom to carry larger, bolder hands without compromising durability.

With a high-capacity battery built to last ten years, the G-SHOCK GA-V01 gives plenty in return. And if you’re wondering where you can pick up one of these horological battle tanks, here’s the lowdown: It launches first at Limited Edt Vault from 14–26 June 2025, before making its way into selected G-SHOCK stores islandwide from 27 June onwards.
