Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 Review: Modest Upgrades Make It Even More Compelling.

While not a radical departure from its predecessor, small improvements make the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 the best flip phone in Samsung’s lineup yet.

If you’re reading this thinking the Z Flip 6 is a radically new phone, let me temper your expectations a little. This isn’t a complete reimagining of the flip phone, more like a polished, more refined version of what was already the best foldable for most people.

Don’t change what isn’t broken, right? And that is essentially what Samsung has done here.

sticking to what works.

Samsung didn’t reinvent the wheel with the Flip 6’s design. In fact, if you’ve held the Galaxy Z Flip 5, you’ve already experienced 90% of what the Flip 6 offers.

The dimensions are the same. The 3.4-inch Super AMOLED Flex Window is still there. The durable Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 panels are also unchanged.

The biggest difference is the shift from a glossy to a matte finish, and while small, it is greatly appreciated. This isn’t as big of a fingerprint magnet anymore.

Maybe it’s unreasonable to expect a major redesign every year, but the familiarity of it all left me feeling underwhelmed. Despite that, there’s no denying that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is still the most durable flip phone on the market, with its IP48 rating and sturdy materials.

It’s a tough little device, no question.

One improvement I noticed was a reduction in the display crease. It’s still there, but it’s shallower, and after a few days of use, I hardly noticed it anymore.

The main 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display remains sharp, vibrant, and smooth, with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits of peak brightness, excellent for most daily scenarios.

performance is still sharp.

Where the Galaxy Z Flip 6 truly shines is in performance. Powered by Qualcomm’s overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, it’s a beast.

With 12GB of RAM (up from 8GB in the Flip 5) and 256GB of base storage, this phone excels at day-to-day heavy usage.

Gaming performance is strong too, though the compact form factor means the phone gets warm during extended sessions. It’s not a major dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind if you’re a heavy gamer.

Still, with good overall battery life and efficient charging, the Flip 6 is a reliable daily driver.

crystal-sharp cameras.

Unlike some other smartphones in this price range, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 doesn’t boast a telephoto lens. Personally, I am okay with it, as I hardly use any telephoto features when capturing photos. An ultrawide sees way more usage here, and Samsung has kept the right balance.

The 50MP primary sensor is an upgrade over last year’s model, and it shows. Photos are crisp and vibrant, even in challenging lighting conditions. The 12MP ultrawide sensor isn’t groundbreaking, but it does its job well, capturing wide landscapes with ease.

And for selfies, I still prefer using the rear cameras via the Flex Window, though the internal 10MP punch-hole camera is fine for quick snaps.

Still the best flip phone you can buy (for now).

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a refined, polished version of its predecessor, offering subtle improvements rather than groundbreaking innovations. Yes, I would’ve liked to see more changes, especially at this price point, but there’s no denying that this is the best flip phone on the market right now.

With a powerful chipset, long software support (7 years of updates!), and solid durability, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a phone you can rely on.
