Earlier this week, an MoU was signed by Inchcape Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic to co-develop an advanced EV training curriculum in line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.
Inchcape Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic (SP) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marks a strategic collaboration that will see the progressive roll-out of educational programs to future-proof local talents’ technological and digital capabilities in Electric Vehicles (EVs).
This MoU effectively serves as a catalyst to strengthen EV readiness in Singapore by preparing the next generation of leaders and professionals for the future of mobility through education.
In line with SG Green Plan 2030, this strategic partnership aligns both with Inchcape Singapore and SP’s commitment to driving sustainability efforts.
Together, SP and Inchcape Singapore will be co-designing and co-developing advanced EV training curriculum on design, assembly, system modelling and simulation for learners. This will cover present and future mobility solutions and include infrastructure, technology, capabilities and resources on EVs.
Inchcape Singapore, the parent company of Borneo Motors, the official dealer of Toyota, Lexus and Suzuki passenger cars, as well as Hino trucks, will be donating Lithium-ion batteries to SP for research projects as well as resource tools to enhance the learning curriculum.
“We are always seeking new and bold ways to power our drive towards a future of sustainable mobility. This partnership with SP allows us to push our ecosystem further towards this future,” said Jasmmine Wong, CEO of Inchcape Greater China and Singapore.
“Most importantly, we are committed to preparing the next-generation of leaders for the future of mobility, beginning with building an inclusive ecosystem that allows our talent to thrive in what will be a new normal for mobility.”
At the event, Ms Wong then went on to sign the MoU with Soh Wai Wah, Principal and CEO of Singapore Polytechnic.
“At Singapore Polytechnic, we believe in growing our brand of quality education in sustainability as a powerful vehicle to contribute to sustainable development. Our strategic partnership with Inchcape will promote more lifelong learning opportunities for learners of all ages, and imbue them with the knowledge and capabilities in EVs to build a future of sustainable living,” announced Mr Soh.
“Plugging EVs into sustainability education is a practical and significant step forward in our efforts to create a future of mobility that will make Singapore a greener and better place to live in.”
By 2024, as many as 700 learners would be equipped with the knowledge necessary to drive the future of mobility.
To build an inclusive ecosystem for all, both Inchcape Singapore and SP will be grooming talents for the future of mobility through internships and the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme, set to roll out in 2023. As part of the internship programme, two students will be attached to Inchcape Singapore each year, with plans to increase the student intake in the future.
In the context of the career development plan, SP graduates and mid-career switchers trained through SP’s training programmes can assimilate into three main functional departments within Inchcape Singapore’s Aftersales team, ranging from frontline roles such as Service Consultant and Service Engineer positions to backend roles including Technical Engineer, Quality Engineer, and Business Development Executive roles.
For customers mulling over switching to EVs, an initiative like this should boost consumer confidence that a robust pipeline of qualified talent will be on hand to see to maintaining and repairing their next cars.
