Don’t be a Kan Cai Tou! It’s Time to Get Wise at the Wise Chopped Carrot Head Stall

We all love a good deal. Ask any Singaporean and you will hear the same thing: if can save, we save.

Yet, for all the effort we put into hunting promos and stretching every dollar, there is one area where many of us quietly bleed cash without realising it: sending money overseas.

Each year, consumers in Singapore lose as much as S$580 million to hidden fees and marked-up exchange rates when transferring money abroad. That number is projected to climb to a staggering S$1.03 billion by 2029. Money that could have gone into savings, school fees or simply a well-earned holiday. In other words, plenty of us have been playing the role of kan cai tou (chopped carrot head) without even knowing it.

Wise thinks it is time to put a stop to that. Instead of letting people carry on getting quietly overcharged, the company is bringing the issue into full view with a playful, very Singaporean twist: the Wise Chopped Carrot Head Stall.

Set in the heart of the city, this interactive pop-up is designed to help you spot hidden fees, understand exchange rate mark-ups, and keep more of your own money when sending it overseas. The message is simple: stop being the chopped carrot head, start being the one who knows better.

From 7 to 9 November 2025, the Wise Chopped Carrot Head Stall will pop up at Funan Mall’s atrium, turning financial literacy into something you can actually see, touch and, quite literally, chop. Through a series of hands-on stations, you will learn how overseas transfers really work, how some providers hide their charges, and how to compare your options more confidently.

Complete all the stations, collect your stamps, and you stand to walk away with exclusive Wise merchandise: a radish bucket hat, a plushie key chain, a juice, and even a shot at a S$300 Scoot voucher.

Pluck-A-Carrot – Digging Up the Truth

The first stop is Pluck-A-Carrot, where you literally pull carrots and answer three true-or-false questions about sending money overseas. Are those “zero fee” claims really zero? What is the difference between the rate you see on Google and the one your provider gives you?

This station is all about unearthing the truth buried under marketing gloss, one carrot at a time.

Weigh-A-Carrot – Checking the Real Cost

Next up, Weigh-A-Carrot. Here, you “weigh” your options by comparing exchange rates and learning how to tell whether you are getting the mid-market rate or one padded with hidden mark-ups.

It is a simple, visual way of understanding that even a small difference in rates can add up, especially if you transfer regularly. After all, if you would compare prices for vegetables at the market, why wouldn’t you do the same for your money?

Chop Chop Carrot Head – Fast Reflexes, Smart Choices

The final challenge is Chop Chop Carrot Head – a fast-paced, 30-second game where you chop as many carrot heads as you can. It is a light-hearted metaphor with a serious undertone: the quicker you are at spotting red flags, the less likely you are to get “chopped” in real life.

Climb the leaderboard and you may be in the running for that S$300 Scoot voucher, a fitting prize for someone who now knows how to save on international transfers.

So, ready to retire your chopped carrot head status?
