An Extraordinary Celebration 2025: Uniting Communities through Music, Movement and Inclusion

Set against the backdrop of Singapore’s 60th birthday, An Extraordinary Celebration 2025 returns for its sixth edition to prove that music, movement, and meaning are not just for the few, but for all.

It’s a symphony of difference, where neurodiverse voices find harmony, where wheelchairs spin in time to drums, and where schools that rarely meet now sing in unison. Held at the Theatre at Mediacorp, this is a celebration that breathes inclusion.

470 students, drawn from 12 special education (SPED) schools, 10 mainstream institutions, and five overseas SPED organisations, co-created a tapestry of art, movement, and song. They were supported by a team of 200 teachers, instructors, and volunteers.

Inclusion here isn’t reduced to a PowerPoint slide. It’s alive, in the way a child from a mainstream school guides his SPED partner across the stage without missing a beat, or in the way a teenager with autism takes the mic and belts out a note that leaves the room in silence.

It’s in the heartbeat of the show.

Each act in AEC2025 is a story unto itself.

  • SG60 Art Montage – A Shared Canvas
Artists from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Mexico with and without disabilities join hands to create a 9-piece art grid celebrating inclusion.
  • Sound of Silence / Banana Boat Song – Choir Collaboration
Students from Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (East), East Spring Secondary School, and Tampines Meridian Junior College remind us that music speaks loudest when words fall short.
  • Dragon’s Heartbeat – Unity in Rhythm
A mesmerising blend of ribbon dancers from Hong Chi Association (Hong Kong) and festival drummers from Yuying Secondary School.
  • I Will Sing You the Stars – Choir Medley
Featuring Grace Orchard, St. Andrew’s Autism School, St. Andrew’s Mission School, and Raffles Girls’ School.
  • Rentak Oonik – Rhythm, Rap & Movement
Led by the boundary-breaking Extraordinary Music Company, with MINDS Towner Gardens’ Darwish, APSN Tanglin School, and cultural icon Najip Ali.
  • In an Urban Jungle – Intergenerational Movement
A jungle symphony when you combine I’m Soul Inc., YMCA of Singapore, and music tech.
  • Finale: “Home” – A Shared Stage
A Singaporean classic, performed by Ms Wee Wei Ling, members of the Extraordinary Light Orchestra, Vocal-POP, Zimi’J, and Najip Ali.

The People Behind the Magic

At the heart of all this is Extra•Ordinary People, a charity founded in 2017 with a mission to build an inclusive society, one lived experience at a time.

Most of their beneficiaries are on the autism spectrum or live with intellectual disabilities, but labels matter little here. What matters more is their capacity for joy, growth, and contribution.

Their programmes range from Independent Mobility Training (IMT), helping caregivers teach safe, confident commuting, to SEN Support in Mainstream Schools, an ongoing collaboration with educators and families.

The charity’s Campus Programme even trains individuals in music, culinary arts, and life skills, bridging the gap between school and working life. These programmes align with Singapore’s Enabling Masterplan 2030 and MOE’s inclusive education goals, reflecting a collective mission to uplift every child and caregiver in our society.

Why It All Matters

In a year of SG60 tributes, fireworks, and fanfare, “An Extraordinary Celebration 2025” reminds us what true progress looks like. It’s not just new roads and tech parks, but a stage big enough for every voice.

And when you watch 470 children sing “Home” together, you realise something – we’re already there.
