The Sony RX1R III redefines what a flagship full-frame compact means, pixel-peeping its way into professional territory.
Officially unveiled on 16 July 2025, the RX1R III marks the third generation of Sony’s cult-classic premium compact, and as the saying goes, good things don’t just come in small packages—they come armed to the teeth.
Beneath its deceptively understated exterior lies a 61-megapixel full-frame Exmor R™ CMOS sensor, the same kind of firepower you’d typically find in a mirrorless beast twice its size (and weight).
A Sensor That Sees the World Differently

At the heart of it all is that glorious 61MP sensor; back-illuminated, with anti-reflective coating, and free of an optical low-pass filter. Paired with the BIONZ XR™ image processing engine, the RX1R III serves up images rich in detail, low in noise, and wide in dynamic range.
The ZEISS® Sonnar T* 35mm F2 lens is permanently fixed to the front, a decision that some may frown upon, but once you’ve seen what it can do, you’ll understand why Sony never gave it a detachable sibling.
It’s not just well-matched to the sensor—it’s tuned to perfection. Each element is micrometre-aligned, delivering edge-to-edge clarity and creamy bokeh that would make a portrait lens blush.
AI with a Photographer’s Intuition

Auto-focus has come a long way from the clunky, whirring days of yore. And in the RX1R III, it borders on telepathic.
Borrowed from Sony’s Alpha™ series, the RX1R III features an advanced AI processing unit that understands shapes, movements, and orientations. Even when the subject turns away or disappears momentarily, the system stays locked on, like a hawk trained on its prey.
Still shooting? 693 phase-detection AF points cover about 78% of the frame. Shooting video? You get the same level of focus fidelity. And when you need to zoom with intent but don’t want the bulk of extra glass, the Step Crop Shooting function lets you toggle between 35mm, 50mm and 70mm perspectives with a simple dial or button press. RAW shooters can even switch focal lengths during post.
Need to go close? A twist of the macro ring lets you get within 20cm of your subject, close enough to see the weave of fabric or the veins on a petal.
Creative Control, Without the Fuss

This isn’t just a point-and-shoot for the casual snapper. The RX1R III comes with twelve Creative Look presets. FL2 dials in a soft, nostalgic vibe. FL3 cranks up the vibrance. And if you’re the kind who likes to tinker with hue, saturation and contrast on the fly, the camera is more than happy to oblige.
A Minimalist’s Dream, A Professional’s Tool

Built from a lightweight magnesium alloy, the RX1R III is as tough as it is sleek. The top plate is flatter, the grip more sculpted, and one-handed operation is no longer a compromise.
The 2.36-million dot OLED electronic viewfinder offers bright, crisp visuals with a 0.70x magnification, plenty for composing even in direct sunlight. And with a USB Type-C® port and support for USB Power Delivery, you can keep the shots flowing long past the 300-frame-per-charge rating.
For longer days, hook up a mobile battery pack and shoot till the stars come out.
Designed with the Future in Mind

Sony hasn’t just thought about the present—they’ve peered into the future. As part of its ‘Road to Zero’ initiative, the RX1R III is produced in facilities powered entirely by renewable electricity, and it arrives in packaging made from Sony’s signature Original Blended Material.
Accessibility hasn’t been forgotten either. The camera includes a Screen Reader and Display Magnification, extending usability to visually impaired creators.
Coming Soon to a Pocket Near You

The Sony RX1R III will be available in Singapore starting August 2025.
Sometimes, less really is more, especially when less means 61 megapixels, full-frame glory, and the kind of build quality that makes you want to keep it forever.
