Launched with quiet confidence and packed with cinematic punch, the Sony FX2 is Sony’s latest answer to the increasingly blurred lines between professional video and high-quality stills.
“The FX2 was created based on user feedback and is engineered with unique features to support filmmaking,” said Kanta Yamamoto, Director of Sony’s Digital Imaging Division.
Full-frame Exmor R™ sensor? Check. 33 megapixels of back-illuminated goodness? Absolutely. A wide dynamic range of 15+ stops via S-Log3? Like icing on a cinematic cake.
But that’s just scratching the surface.

With a dual base ISO of 800 and 4000 and an expandable sensitivity up to ISO 102400, this little wonder thrives in low-light environments. And for the cinephiles out there, Sony’s beloved S-Cinetone™ comes preloaded, alongside support for LUT imports and XAVC S-I DCI 4K recording at 24p.
Familiar to those acquainted with the FX3 and FX30, the FX2’s compact, cageless body and flat-top profile offer flexibility that suits gimbal work, handheld action, or good old-fashioned tripod setups.
Weighing a mere 679g and measuring just 129.7 x 77.8 x 103.7mm, it’s light enough for solo shooters and strong enough to go rigged and rugged. You even get an articulating 3.68-million-dot EVF paired with a vari-angle LCD touchscreen.
Real-time Recognition AF doesn’t just track people. It’s clever enough to follow birds, insects, cars… even your dog’s wagging tail if that’s what your next short film demands. Add in features like Focus Breathing Compensation and AF Assist, and it’s like having a focus puller baked into the camera.

Switching between stills and motion is seamless, thanks to a handy MOVIE/STILL lever and a ‘Log Shooting’ menu that caters to those wanting to dive into colour grading in post. Whether you’re capturing a high-res 33MP still of a street scene or transitioning into a moody cinematic sequence, the FX2 keeps pace with you.
And for the influencers, vloggers, and vertical content warriors? Sony’s added vertical metadata support.
What’s particularly refreshing is how Sony has thought beyond just specs and performance. The FX2 includes tally lights, a “BIG6” home screen interface for quick parameter checks, and even a Framing Stabiliser, a smart feature that keeps your subject locked in the frame.
Audio isn’t left behind either. The FX2 comes with a handle model option that offers 4-channel, 24-bit digital audio input.

Connectivity-wise, the FX2 is ready for the hybrid world we live in, including an HDMI Type-A output, USB-C with 10Gbps speed, and dual-band Wi-Fi and wired LAN options.
But perhaps more notably, the FX2 is part of Sony’s “Road to Zero” pledge, aiming for net-zero environmental impact by 2050. Renewable energy powers its manufacturing, and accessibility features like a screen reader and magnification are thoughtfully integrated.

Come July 2025, it’ll be available across Singapore. For those ready to up their creative game, this could very well be the next must-have tool in your kit.
