In April 2025, Discovery Channel turns 40, and they’re throwing a year-long, world-spanning celebration of the planet, the people on it, and the never-ending pursuit of wonder.
Since 1985, Discovery Channel has done one thing better than most: spark the human need to know why. Why do animals migrate thousands of kilometres? Why do superstorms form? Why does the deep sea remain so elusive?
It’s been the place where a documentary about ant colonies can sit comfortably next to footage of a 20-foot great white leaping from the sea like a ballistic missile. And now, four decades later, that spark still burns bright.
To celebrate, Discovery is stretching across continents and screens with a lineup of special programmes, nostalgic throwbacks, and never-before-seen content set to hit Max this year. It’s part retrospective, part relaunch. A salute to the past, and a step into the future.
There’ll be themed marathons, social media takeovers, and consumer products for the curious-hearted. Want a hoodie with a giant Megalodon across the chest? Or a coffee mug reminding you that sloths only poop once a week? Probably. And Discovery’s got you covered.
But here’s where it gets beautifully real. Warner Bros. Discovery has teamed up with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant over 40,000 trees around the globe.

To those of us who grew up with Discovery in the background, this 40th anniversary is a moment of gratitude. For every late-night binge of MythBusters. For the hypnotic pull of Shark Week. For reminding us that science is never boring, and nature never ceases to amaze.
This celebration will also debut a new brand spot that distills the essence of Discovery into a few impactful minutes. Expect sweeping vistas, stirring narration, and probably a slow-motion bear catching a salmon mid-air. It’s Discovery, after all.
Here’s to 40 more years of diving deeper, zooming closer, and dreaming bigger.
Happy Birthday, Discovery. The world’s still watching.
