i Light Singapore (iLSG) has returned for its milestone 10th edition, illuminating Marina Bay, South Beach, Millenia Walk, and Tanjong Pagar with 17 mesmerising light art installations.
Organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and supported by an array of event partners, sponsors, and precinct stakeholders including Marina Bay Sands, UOB, and Alibaba Cloud, Asia’s leading sustainable light festival promises to captivate with its blend of artistry and environmental consciousness.
Mr Jason Chen, Festival Director of i Light Singapore 2024 and Director (Place Management) of URA, shares, “The light art installations showcased at this milestone edition of i Light Singapore have been carefully selected for their originality, immersive and interactive nature. As this vibrant signature event enlivens our city, we also hope that the sustainable artworks serve as reminders of the importance of sustainable living and inspire a collective vision for a greener future.”
This year’s festival will see 25 artists from 11 countries presenting artworks inspired by the theme of Cyclical Nature and the colour green. These installations explore the endless potential of everyday objects for re-design, restoration, and repurposing.
Stroll along the vibrant Marina Bay waterfront and immerse yourself in the creative brilliance. At The Promontory, ENESS’s ‘Iwagumi Air Scape’ transports visitors to an immersive, larger-than-life urban garden, evoking the serene beauty of the Japanese art form Iwagumi.
Nearby, Studio Toer’s ‘Fish are Jumping’ enchants with leaping “fish” that break the water’s surface, creating a dance of light and shadow.
At the Red Dot Design Museum’s floating pontoon, ‘Arc ZERO: Nimbus’ by Studio James Tapscott offers a mist-encircled view of the city skyline, animated with the lifeblood of our existence – water, air, and light.
For a unique perspective, hop onto the i Light River Cruise Shuttle Service, newly introduced by Singapore River Cruise and WaterB. This special service offers a seamless and scenic journey across the Bay, allowing visitors to appreciate the installations from the water.
Explore the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade, where Sydney-based Amigo & Amigo’s ‘Dandelion’ awaits. Presented by Marina Bay Sands, this installation’s symphony of light and music transports visitors to a world of hope and optimism, inspired by the dance of dandelion petals.
Over at Clifford Square, the ‘Fountain of Happiness’ by 27June Studio invites interaction with swings that generate a brilliant display of colours.
International collaborations bring fresh perspectives, such as ‘Pure Ring’ by Xu Dongliang and Toryo International Lighting Design Center, previously showcased at Glow Shenzhen, and ‘BOB the nice world’ by BOB the nice guy, from Awakening Bangkok.
These pieces add to the festival’s rich tapestry, each with its unique charm and message.
GastroBeats at Bayfront Event Space offers a sensory delight with over 200 food options, family-friendly games, and live performances by musicians mentored by local band 53A.
Aspiring food enthusiasts can also join workshops on food photography and videography led by local content creators Aiken Chia and Nina Tan.
Changemakers can join The Conscious Festival x iLSG, engaging in wellness workshops, supporting conscious brands at the Marketplace, and enjoying performances by sound and light artist Natural Symphony. Talks by thought leaders like Alec Leach and climate activist Clover Hogan will inspire reflection on sustainability.
Participate in i Quest, a gamified initiative where visitors can light up virtual firefly colonies and win vouchers and prizes. The ‘Switch Off, Turn Up’ campaign returns, encouraging energy conservation among Marina Bay’s building owners and businesses.
