Cathay Pacific and its tree initiative have achieved 30,000 mangrove trees planted in Southeast Asia since 2021.
Since the launch of its “1 Ticket, 1 Tree” initiative in 2021, Cathay Pacific has been making waves. This project has recently celebrated the planting of its 30,000th mangrove tree, a big milestone.
The concept is brilliantly simple yet profoundly impactful: for every ticket purchased from key Southeast Asian nations during a specified campaign period, Cathay plants a mangrove tree. This initiative encompasses tickets sold in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Cambodia.
This year, the initiative kicked off with the planting of 4,000 trees at Thailand’s Bangpu Nature Education Centre in Samut Prakan in March 2024.
The commitment continues to grow, with plans to plant an additional 7,500 mangrove trees across the region’s verdant mangrove forests in the coming months.
What makes this initiative resonate deeper is the symphony of collaboration. Cathay joined hands with 13 local partners since the initiative’s inception.
These partnerships span across the Southeast Asian region, helping not only to plant the trees but to ensure they flourish. This year, for instance, half of the trees planted in Thailand were contributed by KTC (Krungthai Card).
Dominic Perret, Cathay’s Regional General Manager for Southeast Asia, encapsulates the initiative perfectly: “Cathay’s 1 Ticket, 1 Tree in Southeast Asia reinforces our aspiration to be at the forefront of sustainability leadership and to advocate for collaborative actions to go Greener Together.”
So next time you book a ticket with Cathay Pacific, you aren’t just securing a seat on a plane; you’re planting roots for the future.
