go green with M1’s new True 5G Eco SIM.

That tiny little heart inside of your smartphone is about to get even more sustainable.

M1 Limited (M1), one of Singapore’s leading Mobile Network Operators, recently announced the availability of its news True 5G Eco SIM for new sign ups to M1’s Bespoke plans. This is, coincidentally, in line with World Environment Day.

As part of its efforts to minimise environmental impact, M1 is introducing the new True 5G Eco SIM in half-sized card format (half the size of a credit card) made from recycled resources, progressively replacing SIM cards currently made from Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) materials. Doing this is not only eco-friendly but it is also a great solution to reduce logistics costs.

By halving the size of the SIM card holder and the usage of recyclable materials, M1 will be able to reduce plastic use by up to 50% and product carbon footprint by 30% in the SIM production department.

Besides the True 5G Eco SIM, M1 is also one of the first few providers to offer 5G eSIM in Singapore. An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows users to activate a mobile plan from M1 without having to use a physical nano-SIM. Without a SIM card, you are technically saving the Earth more, right?

In addition, M1 has accelerated initiatives to cut e-waste by encouraging customers to trade in their old devices. These old devices will be repurposed for new devices or sent to recycling partners to recover more precious materials and support sustainable practices.

“In line with Keppel’s Vision 2030, which places sustainability at the core of its strategy, M1 is doing its part to combat climate change,” said Mr Manjot Singh Mann, Chief Executive Officer, M1.

“The introduction of True 5G Eco SIM is one way we are addressing the problem of plastic waste in the telecommunications industry, contributed by SIM card production, and we will continue to integrate responsible practices to our operations as we work towards a connected, sustainable future.”

True 5G Eco SIMs are now available at all M1 shops.
